Wanyu Brush was born in 1948 in the village of Ngecha, close to
Nairobi, where he still lives and works. Educated at the Ngecha
primary school and then at Gichuru High school, Brush's only art
training was in batik-making and lino-cutting at the YMCA Craft
Centre at Shauri Moyo in Nairobi. He says that neither this, nor
his friendship with many Kenyan artists has had any influence
on his painting career, on which he embarked in 1969. Wanyu Brush
He says his inspiration comes only from his imagination, and from
his love of nature and his understanding of people. He has exhibited
in various group and solo exhibitions.
