Lonad is quiet, reserved – with a ready smile. The real
life experience or eye of the “passive observer” behind
his subject matters belie his youthful age. He is closest in East
Africa to the “artistes populaires” of Central Africa
(Cheri Samba, Moke, Bodo) but far more interesting for the depth
and sweep of his social commentary. Lonad revels in taking a surgeon’s
scalpel to society’s foibles, decadence and debauchery –
or joie de vivre, others might say. A Breughel is born!
