Joseph Opiyo was born in 1965 in Homa Bay, South Nyanza. He is
a trained tailor, who started painting in 1991. His first paintings
were done using household paint, emulsion, gloss and varnish as
he experimented with whatever materials at hand. Most of his works
to date have been of animals and birds which he captures with
vibrant charm and colour. Opiyo has also recently learnt the technique
of woodcut. Has participated in group shows at the French Cultural
Center, Geothe and Italian Institutes, Gallery Watatu among others.
