Born on August 8th, 1945 at Maseno, Vihiga District, John Diang'a
studied up to university level and graduated in Fine Art, B.A.
(Hons) between 1973 and 1991. He held various teaching posts in
Teachers Training Colleges of Siriba, Kagumo and Kisii, before
resigning in July 1991 as a Senior Lecturer.
Active in the arts from an early age, John Dianga's earliest commission
was the out-door frieze on the mara51 Kenyatta Conference Center
entrance. Developing an abstract sculptural form in local stone
in the 1970's, Dianga pioneered a style you now find copied all
over the East Africa. His work hangs in the U.N. in New York,
he is involved in projects in Uganda, Namibia and Europe, and
he runs the Isiepala Cultural Center in Maseno. Dianga is one
of Kenya's most dynamic artists.
